On Tuesday February 21, 2010, members from the CPS came to Whittier School for a meeting that was asked for by the Whittier Parent Committee. The main idea of this meeting was to clarify and review the list of improvements for our school. The budget given to Whittier School is 1.4 million dollars. This money is from Aldermen Danny Solis (from TIF funds). As Mr.Huberman’s CPS team was clarifying the list of improvements, the Whittier Parent Committee and Ms.Gema of Pilsen Alliance had weird looks on their faces. They weren’t in agreement with the list. The parents were saying that it’s not what they had asked for. The main improvements, that the Whittier Parent Committee asked for was the following: a gym expansion, a library, lockers, and science lab, but there is still lots more that is needed. The parents were not satisfied at all! The CPS team came to an agreement where they were going to let the Whittier Parent Committee and Ms.Gema re-arrange the list with their priorities and make a new list. This does not mean the improvements in the new list were going to be done. Although the longer the Whittier Parent Committee took to make the list the later the construction was going to start, Ms. Patricia Taylor said she will take it to the headquarters and will price the new improvements.
